What Is a Birth Doula?
Would a Birth Doula Be Right for Me?
“A trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to a mother before, during and shortly after childbirth to help her achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible.” – DONA International
Haven Care Clinic doulas follow the philosophies and standards of Haven Care Clinic. At Haven Care Clinic, we are about choices. That looks different for everyone. For some, a birth center is an ideal place to give birth, while for others the best place may be at the hospital or even at home. We want to support each woman in whatever she feels is best for her and her family.
Haven Care Clinic doulas are advocates and can help provide information, but are always respectful and nonjudgmental of a mother’s choices. The doula is there to serve you throughout your labor, whether that is just her presence, hands-on physical support, helping your partner support you, or words of encouragement. Every mother has different needs, and our doulas offer the support that best serves each mom.
Benefits of a Birth Doula
Studies have found women with a doula to have a decreased risk of cesarean section, shorter labors, less use of epidurals, less use of Pitocin, and increased satisfaction in their childbirth experience.
Having a birth doula means guaranteed one-on-one support during labor and birth. For moms planning to deliver at TBC, this includes support in the case of a transfer to the hospital.
“But I have a midwife!” Doulas and midwives work as a team to support you emotionally and physically. The doula will completely focus on supporting you, especially at times when the midwife is focusing on tasks and support related to you and your baby’s clinical well-being.

Postpartum Doula Services
What Is a Postpartum Doula?
“The postpartum doula is there to support families as they move into their new roles.” – DONA International
Postpartum doulas provide evidenced-based information on things such as infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery for mom, mother-baby bonding, infant soothing, and basic newborn care. Research shows that moms, dads, and babies have an easier time during this transitional period if a good support team is in place.
Benefits of a Postpartum Doula
A postpartum doula offers many services to her clients, but her main goals are to help mom and nurture the entire family as they transition into life with a newborn. Postpartum doulas help mom and dad feel more confident in their roles, share education on family adjustment, and tend to the unique needs of a new mother. A postpartum doula eases the stress and worry of navigating the fourth trimester and beyond.
What Is Included?
Your postpartum doula will provide physical, emotional, and informational support. She will come to your home when you need her, and is available to assist you before your baby is born as well. Physical support includes running you a relaxing bath, making sure you have food and drink, offering massages, and setting up convenient changing stations around your house. The postpartum doula provides hands-on breastfeeding and bottle-feeding support, as well as pain relief for the new mom.
Your postpartum doula will teach you how to bathe, change, swaddle, and soothe your baby. She will care for your baby while you take a bath, run errands, or take a much-needed nap. She will do light housekeeping, including meal prep, laundry, and other chores. Your postpartum doula is also there to care for your other children while you rest or tend to your newborn.
Our postpartum doulas provide emotional support as well. She will lend a nonjudgmental ear for you to express your fears and concerns. She will answer any questions you may have regarding newborn care or care for yourself. Your postpartum doula can also point you towards the right postpartum support group or resources if you need additional help.
Pricing for Postpartum Doula Services
The initial cost for our postpartum doula services is $120 for a three-hour package. After the initial three hours, your postpartum doula can provide additional assistance customized to meet your needs at a cost of $40 an hour.
